Today's blog is titled:If I could see the future me

  • Do we want to see the future?
  • Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

If I could see the future me

First of all, I think that if we knew the future it would dictate how we act now and therefore we could end up changing our past. I certainly wouldn't want to have missed out on what I've achieved in life particularly my work in India. I've set up sponsorship programs for 4 children’s homes and fund raised over €80,000 for child care, upkeep, buying land and building homes. I've done this all on my own, unaware of what the future might bring. This work is still on going and I wouldn't want to know anything that might change my priorities. Because if I stop the work stops, and this is worrying.

So I’m not sure that I would want to see the future; and second, if I did know, it might make me too prepared for what might come. I know that it would also be very helpful to know what's ahead for us, but we’d end up preparing ourselves to be better able to handle it and possibly change it. And by changing it we could start a domino effect of consequences that would change the future for a lot of people.

I use the word `we’ because naturally I’d end up sharing it with family, which would also change their destinies and that of the people in their lives. Even though we can never truly be prepared for something, we would spend our days anticipating it and not enjoying our actual lives.

Also if we knew someone was going to die we wouldn't be able to enjoy the time we had left together because we would know what was going to happen. I think this would be very disturbing and difficult to deal with. I really think knowing in advance would spoil the good years and change how we would act towards them.

But if I could see the future, I would hope that I would continue doing what I do, only better. A lotto win would be a help, but it wouldn't be spent on beach holidays, but in the jungles and tribal villages of India where I've spent last seven summers.

But all in all, I think it's far better to live life today, being the best person we know how to be.  It's easy to miss the joys of today while anticipating future events that we may or may not be able to change.  So I think that we should let things be as they are, and let the future be the consequences of our current actions. So let’s make mistakes, laugh a lot, and let the future have its way.

This video contains a futuristic plan for an orphanage program along with some shocking facts of what's happening. I've worked with children and families in the slums of Mumbai and so have witnessed this first hand.
